Located in Konkan region of Raigad district, Alibaug is a small town on the west coast of Maharashtra. It is near the famous metro of Mumbai. Alibaug means Ali's garden. According to legends Ali, a foreign pilgrim, has planted many mango and coconut trees, hence the name Alibaug.

Important Places to Visit Near Alibaug

Alibaug built in the 17th century under the supervision of Shivaji Maharaj. In 1852 it was declared 'Taluka'. In Alibaug, a place named Beni has been the residence of Israeli Jews for many decades now.

The Kolaba Fort is a testimony to the fact that the Maratha Empire ruled this part of India. This fort, which is currently in disrepair, can be seen clearly from the coast of Alibaug. During the full tide this fort looks simply mesmerizing.

Another fort is Khandari fort which is about 300 years old. This fort built in the Peshwa dynasty and was handed over to the British during the British rule. Kankeshwar Temple and Someshwar Temple are the two prestigious temples that fill the reverence in the minds of pilgrims coming here. These two splendid temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva. This small town is today a business center, while the local people live in farms and huts ,These temple's are located in the tiny village of Akshi, at a distance of 3 km from Alibag.

Also known as 'Goa of Maharashtra,' Alibaug is surrounded by water from three sides and the beautiful Alibaug beach on the other. With lots of coconut and betel trees all around the banks of the coast, the entire area looks like a tropical beach. The weather here is very pleasant and the coast looks absolutely untouched. The air here is fresh and the view of the shores looks like a paradise.

While the black sand on the Alibaug coast attracts you, there is scattered white sand on the Kahim coast welcoming seashore lovers. Other attractions include Varsoli beach, Datta Temple Kurul, Hirakot fort, Hirakot lake, Mandava port and Sarkhol kanoji Angre Samadhi.

Alibaug's coast is a great place to spend a fun weekend, where you can stroll along the coast with friends and family, play in the water, and in the evenings, you can see the spectacular visuals of the sunset which leaves an indelible impression on the visitors’ minds.
